Poland Smelting Technologies


The POLST (Poland Smelting Technologies “POLST” Sp. z o.o.) company has been established in December 2002. Production at the POLST plant in Wałbrzych started in March 2003.

The POLST plant is located in the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone, in the immediate vicinity of the Toyota plant.

POLST is a Japanese company, and its stockholders include:

• Toyota Tsusho Corporation – a trade company of the Toyota group, and at the same time the main supplier of the Toyota Motor Corporation plants all over the world.

• Toyota Tsusho Europe S.A. – the European division of the Toyota Tsusho Corporation dealing in planning, supplying machines, tools, spare parts, and raw materials for production. It also supports its clients in terms of purchases, logistics, project modernizations and improvements, as well as warehousing raw materials.

• Daiki Aluminium Industry Co., Ltd. – the largest manufacturer of aluminum alloys in Japan, and the largest aluminum supplier for Toyota casting plants located in Japan. Budynek Poland Smelting Technologies

POLST includes the latest technologies allowing to manufacture high quality casting aluminum alloys.

The plant has been launched in 2003 with the use of latest smelting technologies, which guarantee the continuity of deliveries and maintaining a high level of production quality.

As the first plant in the country, we have taken advantage of a technology allowing to smelt gross created in the process of manufacturing alloys. This technology allows for an additional metal recycling, and also significantly impacts the reduction of produced waste.

Production process:

1) Delivery

Raw materials: aluminum scrap, sows, shavings, gross, silicon, copper, manganese, magnesium, zinc, titanium, iron, and other. Most raw materials are delivered by trucks, and a part of the scrap is delivered directly to the client, using a forklift.

2) Control

Each delivery undergoes control in terms of: weight, packing, radioactivity, pollution, moisture, chemical composition. Unloading takes place after the control, in the case of determining that there are no abnormalities.

3) Storing

All raw materials are stored under a roof in order to protect them from moisture. Loose raw materials in boxes, raw materials on pallets or in big-bags are stored at designed storage locations.

4) Preparation

Polluted raw materials undergo a preparation process: shavings including emulsion are centrifuged and dried in a dryer, while casts including iron undergo smelting in rotary furnaces.

5) Smelting

Aluminum is smelted in smelting furnaces. The target chemical composition is achieved thanks to properly dosing raw materials. Gross is created during the melting process, from which aluminum is recycled in rotary furnaces.

6) Refining

After finishing the smelting process, the liquid metal located in the smelting furnaces undergoes the process of refining.

7) Pouring

Ready aluminum is poured through a system of chutes to a tank or formed into sows. The tanks are prepared for shipping, while after packing, the sows are transported to the warehouse for ready-made products.

8) Shipping

Liquid metal is delivered to the TOYOTA plant in Wałbrzych in tanks, with the use of forklifts, and to the TOYOTA plant in Jelcz-Laskowice in tanks, with the use of special delivery trucks.
Sows are sent to clients in trucks, 24 tons each.


The POLST company has been established in order to manufacture and provide cast aluminum alloys for the automotive industry. Our main clients are the TOYOTA casting plants located in Wałbrzych and Jelcz-Laskowice.

We also provide our cast alloys to other companies of the TOYOTA group located i.a. in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Great Britain.

Liquid aluminum alloys

The aluminum alloys provided by POLST are then used by these companies to create casts later used in the production of engines, transmissions, and other components.

For our main clients, we use the most advanced delivery technology. Aluminum alloys are delivered in liquid form directly to casting machines at the client’s plant. Liquid aluminum is transported in special tanks, at the temperature of circa 700°C, thanks to which there is no need to further process the alloy at the client’s plant.

Using this technology allows the recipient to avoid losses related to further melting, and for a significant reduction of energy consumption expenses, further limiting emission and a negative impact on the natural environment.

The Toyota casting plant in Wałbrzych is located in the direct vicinity of the POLST plant. The short distance between the plants allows to deliver the liquid aluminum with the use of forklifts operated on in-plant roads.

The TOYOTA casting plant in Jelcz-Laskowice is located circa 120 km from POLST. The distance between the plants forces the need to use special delivery trucks for transporting tanks with liquid metal, in order to perform the deliveries on time.

Aluminum alloys in the form of sows

For our other clients, we manufacture cast aluminum alloys in the form of sows, weighting 5 kg and measuring: 1200 x 80 x 60 mm. Sows may be stacked in any desired form, with the maximum weight of 600 kg. The stacks may be strapped with a tape: aluminum, steel, or plastic, in accordance with the client’s needs. Trucks are used to deliver the sows.

Integrated Management System


OHSAS 18001 / PN-N 18001

The OHS Management System constitutes a confirmation of the commitment and high awareness of the company’s management and employees concerning OHS.

A proof of the commitment presented by POLST’s Top Management in terms of the OHS Management System, is establishing the “PO PIERWSZE BEZPIECZEŃSTWO" (FIRST OF ALL SAFETY) rule. .

The POLST Sp. z o.o. company has implemented the OHS Management System accepting it as the most efficient manner of systematizing actions in favor of improving and maintaining the high level of OHS on all of the company’s organizational levels.

In reference to OHS, the POLST company takes advantage of active monitoring. Our actions in terms of the OHS Management System focus on detecting potential hazards and eliminating them before they result in unwanted events.

This system has also helped us in developing the methods of efficiently reacting to existing situations, related to hazards and malfunctions, as well as preventing occupational diseases.


ISO/TS 16949

The POLST Sp. z o.o. company has been established to cooperate with plants owned by the Toyota group, meeting the concern’s requirements and manufacturing products in accordance with the Quality Standard for aluminum products in liquid form and in the form of sows.

The clients’ needs and expectations are systematically recognized by monitoring the customer satisfaction level. Expectations identified in real time translate into actions concerning perfecting the Quality System.

The Quality Management System has been established in order to:
• execute the company’s policy and achieve set goals concerning quality
• perfect the quality of offered products
• meet the clients’ expectations

A process-based approach has been assumed in terms of management, which consists in determining managing methods with identified processes and defining their relations and dependencies.

Marking the product takes place regardless of the location and phase of the process.

All POLST product are identified at specific execution stages by:

• giving unique features to the documentation related to a given product,

• marking ready products and marking samples,

• gathering notes and archiving documents concerning a given product.

The assumed identification system ensures:

• proper assembling
• the possibility to identify the source of an error
• the possibility to recreate the product history

Constantly perfecting, both processes as well as the quality of offered products, is recognized as the company’s basic strategic goal. It is seen as an ongoing process, consisting in analyzing all of the actions and searching for new solutions.


ISO 14001

The company’s main tool for executing its policy in terms of the environment is the certified and constantly perfected ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

The POLST company presents an integrated approach to the problems related to environmental protection, undertaking actions in all environmental fields at the same time: air pollution, waste management, as well as water-sewage management.

In 2004, the POLST company has been granted an integrated permit, issued by the Governor of Lower Silesia, for a secondary aluminum smelting installation. One of the basic tasks executed in terms of the Environmental Management System is constantly monitoring and supervising the identified environmental aspects, as well as minimizing their negative impact on the environment.

ISO 50001

Receiving the ISO 50001 certificate in 2015, POLST became the first company in the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone, and the first company of secondary aluminum smelting, which certified the Energy Management System.

Energy consumption constantly becomes a more and more important expense factor for companies and organizations. Therefore, in order to reduce its costs, the key issue at the POLST company is to constantly optimize energy consumption.

Optimization of the fields of raw materials, products, processes, services, and the habits of energy users, allow to minimize the costs of energy.


SThe energy management system allows to form conclusions in order to define what are the costs of given means used to limit energy consumption and maintain a constant improvement of energy efficiency.
